The Homelite XL chainsaw collection, no more in production, was manufactured by the Homelite division of Textron, Inc.. The series comprised over 20 different versions with string pitches varying bar spans and engine horsepower levels. Many of these versions are still in use now. All XL chainsaw engines are lubricated with a combination of two-cycle engine oil and gasoline, mixed in a ratio.

The Perfect Recipe

The advised 50-to-1 fuel mix includes 2.6 oz of a high quality, two-cycle acrylic with added fuel stabilizers and 1 gallon of unleaded 87-octane gas. Homelite recommends using their brand of oils designed to work in any version using a gas ratio that is 50-to-1. When using oil that doesn’t contain gas purification mix gas at a ratio of 16-to-1, which will be 1 gallon of gasoline and 8 oz of oil, and include an fuel stabilizer.

Mix it Up

Use a clean container for mixing oil and gas and shake the container well before fueling the chainsaw, to completely mix the gas and oil. Homelite recommends mixing gas than you can utilize inside a 30-day period, which makes no greater. Do not use any pre-mix fuel blends created for bikes or mopeds, oils or automotive motor oils designed for outboard motors.
