Staining a deck black is a fantastic way to protect it from UV rays and other damage. The largest challenge you will face is finding a business which earns a black deck stain. It is not a popular colour, and you may need to try substituting an outside stain. It may also be possible to have a blot mixed to your liking, and speak with the staff in your regional paint shop to find out what’s possible.

Sweep the deck you’re staining to remove leaves, grass or other loose debris.

Apply a deck cleaner advocated for the deck’s surface; use a paint roller or sprayer. If you don’t want to use a deck cleaner, then you may use plain dish soap and then apply white vinegar to stained areas. There are various sorts of cleansers for decks which have been previously stained or handled, as well as for those that haven’t.

Mist the surface thoroughly before cleaning. Utilize the mist setting on a garden hose nozzle. Work in tiny sections and keep the area you’re working on wet at all times.

Scrub the deck with a stiff-bristled deck brush. Rinse with a garden hose.

Permit the deck to dry completely.

Sand any rough areas or areas which have spots you cannot get rid of.

Sprinkle a few drops of water onto the deck. If the water is absorbed by the deck, the deck is ready to take stain.

Read the stain manufacturer’s directions before applying the stain and follow any particular instructions.

Apply black blot using a brush or roller.

Wait at least 5 hours before applying another coat. A black blot will probably need at least two and possibly three coats to completely cover the deck. If you don’t mind a translucent black look, two coats will probably be fine.
