A Family Goes Sweet on a Traditional Texas Home

Craving a cozy getaway where they could increase their girls, Katie and Steve Aldrich chose this magnificent home near Dallas. After they gutted the house and fixed the outside, Katie infused the interior with her signature easy and feminine style, accenting with family antiques. “I just wish to make a happy atmosphere for our family,”she states.

New windows, a rock entry, gas stoves and new paint gave the outside a facelift.

“I always pictured a swing on our 70-year-old tree,” says Katie. “Plus, once I saw that tree I knew it’d be fantastic to illuminate every Christmas.”

Architect Can Snyder gutted the house and utilized the existing service partitions to dictate the house’s new floor plan. As a result, the majority of the rooms have the same form they had before but a completely different function.

The living room, a favorite area of Katie’s, is where she splurged on furniture. Stylish and sentimental pieces fill the space. “I’m all about showing items that I love, including my accumulated antiques and coffee table books,” she states.

The fireplace needed to be dropped to the house during construction. “I wanted the bookshelves and the fireplace to take center stage,” says Katie. Prized plates, Staffordshire puppies, Imari vases and classic books fill the built-in shelves.

One of Katie’s favorite designers, Sally Wheat, motivated the kitchen’s soft colour palette. Carrara marble counters, white cabinetry, wooden bar stools and feminine light fixtures increase the serene vibe.

The house’s unique floor plan had the kitchen put toward the back of the open area. Katie and Steve had the strategy flipped to make this combined kitchen and living area.

The former living area transformed into this dining room, but the fireplace mantel pays tribute to the first house’s design. The mirror belonged to Katie’s grandmother, and the chandelier came from her great-grandmother’s house.

“I actually had fun with all the baths. Using different tile is similar to wearing jewelry that is different,” Katie says. A modern vanity and an antique mirror combination new and old in this powder area. Finally, Katie would like to put in a dark gray grass fabric wall covering to get a more romantic vibe.

“I love pink and love most things feminine,” Katie says. But 3-year-old Georgia is much more interested in comfort than colour. She enjoys her bed, particularly the habit headboard, upholstered in fabric from Fabric Factory.

Grace’s room comes with a equally comfy and girly vibe. The 6-year-old enjoys her adorable nightstand. “I like that I don’t have to get up in the middle of the night to find a drink of water,” she states.

Katie enjoys symmetrical design, therefore that there are windows on both sides of the bed with a great view of the backyard. Another custom-made headboard makes for a comfortable sleeping area within this master bedroom. Katie’s brother made the matching nightstands.
